Claire O'Neill's experience includes:

  • Advising individuals and corporate entities about potential criminal liability
  • Advising and appearing for individuals and companies in criminal prosecutions
  • Appearing in trials and sentences in the District Court, Supreme Court, Federal Court and Land and Environment Court, including for murder, sexual assault, fraud, drug supply and anti-competitive conduct
  • Advising and appearing in appeals to the Court of Criminal Appeal, the Court of Appeal and the High Court
  • Counsel assisting the Office of the Special Investigator in relation to potential war crimes in Afghanistan

Prior to being called to the bar, Claire O'Neill appeared as a Trial Advocate for the Aboriginal Legal Service in both trials and sentencing hearings.  Claire also instructed counsel in a special leave application to the High Court of Australia, appeals to the NSW Court of Criminal appeal, sentence hearings, applications and trials in the District Court.  Claire also appeared and instructed in complex local court hearings including murder committals and Children's Court matters.
