David Barrow

Admitted as a legal practitioner in 1985
Admitted as a barrister in 2009


David Barrow practised as a lawyer with the NSW Legal Aid Commission from 1988 until September 2009 when he came to the Bar.

As a solicitor he was an accredited criminal law specialist from 1996 until 2009 and gained a wide range of experience in all levels of the criminal justice system.

Between 2001-2006 he was in charge of the Commission’s State-wide appellate criminal practice.

Between 2006-2008 he established the Commission’s Coronial Inquest Unit and regularly appeared in inquests on behalf of interested parties.

Since coming to the Bar, David has continued to appear in all levels of the justice system.  He has conducted summary hearings, trials and has regularly appeared in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal and before the State Coroner’s Court.

He has appeared as counsel assisting the Coroner in inquest proceedings and as junior counsel assisting in an aspect of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.  He has appeared in District Court trials for Commonwealth offences for both the defence as well as on behalf of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutors.

David has also appeared as junior counsel in a number of appeals to the High Court of Australia, including Muldrock v The Queen [2011] HCA 39; 244 CLR 120.
