Bill Neild SC

Bill Neild is a senior counsel who specialises in criminal law.

He was called to the Bar in 2004, after having served as the Associate to Justice Davies of the Federal Court of Australia, practiced in commercial litigation in Sydney and London, completed a Masters of Law at the University of London following the award of a Chevening Scholarship and worked as a solicitor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (NSW). At the private Bar Bill practiced primarily in criminal law, but also developed expertise in relation to commissions of inquiry and inquests, disciplinary proceedings, work health and safety prosecutions, environmental prosecutions and administrative and public law proceedings. In 2016 he was appointed a Public Defender, being based initially at Port Macquarie before returning to Sydney in 2021. He was appointed senior counsel in 2022 and in 2024 returned to private practice.
