Elana ScoufisAdmitted as a legal practitioner in 2014
Admitted as a barrister in 2022 Elana has a particular interest in criminal, administrative and appellate law. Prior to being called to the Bar, Elana was a Trial Advocate at the Aboriginal Legal Service in New South Wales, and before that at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency in the Northern Territory. Elana has extensive experience appearing in jury and judge-alone trials, sentence hearings, bail applications, appeals, Local Court hearings, and commissions of inquiry. She has a particular interest in matters that raise nuanced and complex evidentiary issues, especially those involving expert medical, digital (including Cellebrite), or other forensic material. Outside of her criminal practice, Elana maintains a growing civil practice. She has appeared in the Federal Court, the Supreme Court, and the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal in administrative, commercial, and family law matters. Elana has contributed to legislative and procedural reform through her work on two statewide committees: one focused on the legislative reform of sexual consent laws in New South Wales, and another overseeing the implementation of the Pilot Program for pre-recording evidence given by complainants in child sexual assault matters. In 2022, Elana was awarded the Christopher Gee QC Memorial Prize by the New South Wales Bar Association for first place in the Bar Practice Course.
