Admitted as a legal practitioner in Northern Territory in 2004.
Admitted as a legal practitioner in New South Wales in 2010.
Admitted as a barrister in 2015.

Prior to commencing at the bar Chris McGorey was employed as a Solicitor Advocate at the NSW Crown Solicitor's Office in both the Child Protection and Community Law Practice Groups (2014 - 2015) and the Inquiries and Criminal Practice Groups (2010 - 2014).  Chris McGorey has appeared as junior Counsel Assisting in inquests and fire inquiries,  appeared for NSW Government agencies in Local Court prosecutions
and related conviction and/or sentence appeals before the District Court as well as providing written advice to government agencies, particularly in regards to the construction of statutory powers and obligations.

From 2005 - 2010 Chris McGorey was a solicitor and Senior solicitor in the Criminal Section at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) in the Northern Territory.  During this time he appeared for defendants in summary hearings, committal hearings and bails in the Local Court as well as trials, pleas, bails reviews and appeals in the Supreme Court.  Chris also instructed counsel in committal hearings, hearings and trials concerning serious indictable offences and in hearings before the Court of Criminal Appeal.
